Talks about the Eastern Himalayas

Would your organisation like to hear about the heritage of the Indian Eastern Himalayas? If so, Teesta Heritage founder Walter Scott is available to speak…

Walter and Bear Grylls with Lepcha dance performers at Yangri, near Kalimpong, October 1993

Walter first visited the Eastern Himalayas to trek with a young Bear Grylls in 1992, and returned again in 1993 as a volunteer at the Mary Scott Home and School for the Blind at 9th Mile in Kalimpong. After three years at Bloomsbury Publishing, he worked for more than two decades in Government communications, including a spell as a ministerial speechwriter, and co-founding the Defence Green Network, a staff network promoting sustainability, environmental protection and climate security across UK Defence.

Yet Walter’s heart never really left the Himalayas. In recent years he has returned regularly to the region, for more teaching, and to research and speak on the work of the Scottish missionaries. Working in collaboration with Dr Anira Phipon Lepcha of Sikkim University, he has also written for the Institute of Tibetology, the National Library of Scotland, and the Church of Scotland, alongside setting up Teesta Heritage to promote the region to Western markets.

Walter is ready to speak on a variety of themes, and can adapt his discussion to meet any interests that your audience might have:

If you would like to discuss setting up a talk for your organisation, please email info@teestaheritage.com, including a phone number, and we will be touch.
